Can a Palm Beach County family pay for sports lessons, p.e. & equipment with scholarship funds?

It depends on the program: Unique Abilities and PEP and Private School Scholarship can pay for it. The cards below give each program's rule.

Sports lessons, team fees, memberships for the student, sports supplies and rentals, uniforms, safety equipment and P.E. equipment.

PEP (home-directed ESA)Eligible

Private School Scholarship (FTC/FES-EO)Eligible from leftover funds after tuition

From leftover funds; an athletics fee at a school is an eligible fee.

Which rules apply to sports lessons, p.e. & equipment?

  • P.E. equipment such as a stationary bike or a kayak is limited to one purchase every two years.
  • Sports-related camps can be submitted under Sports Lessons.
  • Family memberships are prorated to the student's share.

What is not allowed for sports lessons, p.e. & equipment?

  • Motorized exercise equipment other than treadmills and walking pads
  • In-ground and above-ground pools
  • Bouncy houses
  • Sporting event tickets

How does sports lessons, p.e. & equipment work for a Palm Beach County family?

Swim and sailing lessons are natural purchases on the Atlantic coast. Keep the itemized receipt showing instruction rather than a general membership.

How does a family buy sports lessons, p.e. & equipment?

Look in MyScholarShop first, because its listings are pre-approved. Next try Find Providers in EMA, which lets the account pay tutors, therapists and instructors directly. If neither fits, pay by card, hold the itemized receipt and file for reimbursement. A purchase the guides do not list as eligible needs pre-authorization before you spend.

What can the funds pay for, and what can they not?

For this category, the table sets allowed purchases next to excluded ones.
